Living in South Florida, the DiGiorgios soon discovered Key Largo and fell in love with the people and what the area had to offer. Over the past 50 years, there have been a number of restaurants in South Florida owned and operated by both the DiGiorgio and the Maiani families, and by various relatives. Having two children, Robert & Gina, Pasquale had a desire to get ahead using old family recipes… and the rest is history. Getting married in 1965 was just the beginning. Over the years, both families came to settle in South Florida in the 1960’s, where Pasquale DiGiorgio came to meet JoAnn Maiani. The Maianis (JoAnn DiGiorgio’s family) is originally from the Independent Republic of San Marino and the DiGiorgio family is from Cassino, Italy. Both families started coming to the United States through Ellis Island in the early 1900’s. The DiGiorgio & Maiani families go back centuries in Italy. Our lagoon is open to the creatures who patrol our water ways so we can’t promise you’ll see them all but I’m sure you’ll see quite a variety when you come.DiGiorgio’s Cafe Largo A FAMILY TRADITION We have Sea Horses, Snapper, Parrot Fish, Barracuda, Sergeant Majors, Blue Tangs and of course let’s not forget the Manatees who visit on a regular basis.

The world famous PADI organization utilizes Jules’ Lagoon and Key Largo Undersea Park for its exams. It’s 30 feet deep, and has platforms and down lines for SCUBA training. The lagoon is sheltered but is still considered an open water dive site. Both Jules’ Undersea Lodge and the MarineLab have been used in research on extended space travel. Jules’ Undersea Lodge (formerly La Chalupa Research Lab) also served as the site of the historic 1995 sea-space link-up in which ocean pioneers Scott Carpenter and Ian Koblick spoke with astronaut Mike Gernhardt aboard the space shuttle Endeavour.
